The DR series of wood baseball bats are perfect for the transition of a young player moving from a youth bat to a bat with a full-size barrel.
Normally, at age 12-13, a hitter outgrows their K455, K240, or K271 wood youth bat. This is a result of physical size, league requirements and/or the speed of pitching now faced. Stick with a youth bat and the chance of breaking the wood bat increases greatly. Go to a high-school weight bat too soon and your young hitter starts picking up bad habits (like dropping the shoulder and dragging the bat through the strike zone).
Enter the DRD4 to give the big 12-13 year old a power hitter's wood bat. The DRD4 transition bat is another great option for the youth player moving from a lighter weight bat and looking for something heavier before advancing to an adult bat. The DRD4 is similar to our DR271, but the difference is in the handle and knob. The flare on the DRD4 is classified as a medium flare and has a slight lip on the knob. Modeled after the RD4 for the Astros Ronnie Dawson.
